TriZetto
The broadest payer network in the U.S. with nearly 10,000 connections — the back-end engine for half the industry.
Overview
TriZetto, a Cognizant company, operates one of the most established clearinghouse networks in the industry. With over 8,000 payer connections — the broadest in the market by raw count — TriZetto provides claims routing, eligibility verification, remittance processing, and revenue cycle management tools.
What most practices don't realize is that TriZetto is already their clearinghouse. Kareo (Tebra), PracticeSuite, ChiroTouch (CT ProClear), and eClinicalWorks all route claims through TriZetto on the back end. If you use any of these systems, your claims are going through TriZetto whether you chose it or not.
Originally founded in 1997 and acquired by Cognizant in 2014, TriZetto serves a diverse client base from small practices to large health systems. The Cognizant backing provides enterprise-grade infrastructure and ongoing investment in the platform.
Pros & Cons
Strengths
- Broadest payer network. 8,000+ payer connections — the largest raw count in the industry. Excellent for practices dealing with niche or regional payers.
- Enterprise-grade reliability. Cognizant backing means robust infrastructure, high uptime, and ongoing platform investment.
- Proven at scale. Decades of operation processing billions of transactions. Mature, stable platform with predictable behavior.
- Deep EMR embed base. Back-end clearinghouse for Kareo, PracticeSuite, ChiroTouch, and ECW — meaning it powers more practices than any other clearinghouse.
- Comprehensive EDI support. Full X12 transaction set support including claims, eligibility, ERA, claim status, and referral/authorization.
Weaknesses
- Dated interface. The web portal feels older than competitors like Waystar or Stedi. Functional but not modern in design or UX.
- Large-company support model. Support quality varies. Smaller clients may feel deprioritized compared to enterprise accounts.
- Complex pricing. Pricing can be opaque with multiple fee types. Requires careful negotiation to avoid unexpected costs.
- Slower innovation cycle. Large corporate parent means new features and UI improvements roll out more slowly than startup competitors.
